As if this were not enough, the miners who found it say the “ear” weighs 6,664 grams

As it turns out, Van Gogh might not be the only one missing an ear right about now. On the contrary, rumor has it that, not too long ago, none other than the devil lost one as well, and that a mining company in Russia is now in possession of it.

Before anybody starts ordering holly water online or anything of the sorts, it need be said that this alleged devil body part that was discovered in Russia's Irkutsk region is actually a gold nugget.

Thus, the nugget, a photo of which is available above, only started being referred to as The Devil's Ear by the people who discovered it due to the rather peculiar circumstances in which it was found, Oddity Central informs.

Not to beat about the bush, it turns out that employees of mining company Ugakhan stumbled upon the gold nugget earlier this month, on Friday 13, a day which many believe to be the unluckiest of the year.

Add to this the fact that piece of gold was found on a full moon and weighs 6,664 grams, and it is no wonder that miners have decided to name it The Devil's Ear. More so since its shape actually resembles that of a human ear.

Granted, the gold nugget's weight is satanic-like only when expressed in grams (there really isn't anything scary about something that weighs 235 grams), and it is only through a stretch of the imagination that its shape resembles that of an ear, but these are no reasons not to freak out.

Talking to the press, Sergey Kozlov, the current director of mining company Ugakhan, explains that The Devil's Ear was discovered quite by chance. What he means is that, had it not been for a worker who decided to have a closer look at the day's spoils, it would have been discarded as a rock.

“For us, it is a pleasant surprise. The nugget was found in a new mine that according to preliminary estimate doesn’t have that much gold. First we will have to check the dropouts more carefully – to see what else the ‘clever’ equipment threw away!” Sergey Kozlov says in a statement.

According to miners in Russia, it seldom happens that gold nuggets like this one sit in the underground all by themselves. Hence, it is to be expected that another Devil's Ear like this one will soon be unearthed in Russia's Irkutsk region.

“If there is one, then, there will be a second. It is possible that quite soon the Devil’s Ear will have a brother,” a miner familiar with the behavioral patterns of devilish gold nuggets reportedly explains.
