Capcom has finally confirmed the existence of the Devil May Cry HD Collection, after being leaked by retailers earlier this year and even getting a rating from the ESRB before it became official.

Capcom's Devil May Cry amazed gamers last generation, with three quality titles, as well as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners with the more recent Devil May Cry 4. Now, as Ninja Theory is working hard on a reboot for the series, called DmC Devil May Cry, Capcom has confirmed that the three original titles are being repackaged in an HD collection.

Set to include Devil May Cry 1, Devil May Cry 2, and Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition, the collection is scheduled to appear for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in early 2012.

Capcom highlights that the franchise has sold more than 10 million units worldwide and that the collection will emphasize what made the first three games so addictive, while adding things like HD graphics, bonus content as well as support for trophies, on the PS3, and achievements, on the Xbox 360.

In case you're not familiar with the first three games, check out their official summaries below, straight from Capcom.

Debuting in 2001, Devil May Cry immediately redefined the action genre, achieving a metacritic of 94 . The title captured gamers’ hearts through its stylish, over-the-top action and bad boy anti-hero Dante. Son to a human mother and a devil father named Sparda, the half-demon Dante uses his innate abilities and the powers of ancient demons to fight a one-man war against the forces of darkness and save humanity from damnation.

The follow up to Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2 centers on Dante and his new devilishly agile partner Lucia in their fight to defeat a horde of evil and a man hell-bent on achieving supreme power. Devil May Cry 2 released in 2003 and was praised for its variety of environments, additional playable character, new ideas and updated control scheme.

Released in 2006 , Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening Special Edition is the definitive edition of Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening, featuring a number of enhancements, including the opportunity to play as Dante’s twin brother, Vergil, as well as the addition of Bloody Palace Mode and Turbo Mode. The Devil May Cry HD Collection will be released on the two consoles in early 2012 and retails, in North America at least, for $39.99, which should translate in a 29 Euros price tag in the Old Continent.
