14 DAY TRIAL // The Lockitron is a device that can be placed over your existing deadbolt lock. After installing the Lockitron app on your Smartphone, it lets you lock and unlock your residence, no matter your location.
The two-button app has a simple and intuitive design, based on the internet-operated lock premiered by the company last year. The app is compatible with any smartphone, and there is the option of installing it on your phone even if it doesn't have smartphone features. In this case, it will be operated via text message.
The device that you attach to your door has built-in WiFi receptors, allowing it to send out notifications in case you left your door unlocked or someone opened it after you left home.
If you own an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, you will be able to access the “Sense” feature, that unlocks your door as you walk up to it.
Lockitron is available on the manufacturer's website for $149, but since it is still in prototype phase, the first batch will only be shipped in March 2013.
