At a talk at the Game Developers Conference, the guys behind Media Molecule have said that they plan to further develop LittleBigPlanet, which has picked up no less than four awards at the Game Developers Choice Awards.

Speaking at the conference, Alex Evans and Mark Healey have been mentioning how the game, as a platformer, is pretty much done, but how the Media Molecule team is interested in making LittleBigPlanet the most powerful level creator on the market at the moment.

Healey says, “We still feel like we're halfway through the development of LittleBigPlanet, to be honest,” adding that, “We want LittleBigPlanet to be something that enables people to make games, not platform game levels.” In fact, all the levels from the Story mode of the game have been created using tools that are now available to those who have bought the title.

There are 2 million people playing it at the moment, if the PlayStation figures are to be believed, and Media Molecule aims to have at least 0.1% of them creating new content, which can be shared with the rest and enjoyed by all. Adding new features to the game creation side of LittleBigPlanet will only expand the quality of the content created. It's not clear if the new tools will be coming via downloadable free patches, premium DLC, which needs to be paid for, or new boxed versions of the game.

While this is sorted out, it's clear that LittleBigPlanet will be coming to the PlayStation Portable, retaining most of the characteristics of the PlayStation 3 version. Meanwhile, Media Molecule is also working on a new title, of which little is known at the moment.

One of the most interesting bits from the conference has been the revealing of how the level creation in LittleBigPlanet has worked in the initial versions of the game. Alex Evans has shown a version of LittleBigPlanet where players use paint roller to apply color to backgrounds and run around using shotguns to destroy the content that they do not want in their levels.
