Softpedia is proud to present its readers with the latest software updates for some of the most popular third party applications for Mac OS X.

Updated earlier this week, Typinator, by Ergonis software, is a utility that automates typing of frequently used text and pictures and auto-corrects typos.

Version 4.1 brings the ability to set-specific presets for case options and the "Whole word" setting, faster import of text files, a new search field that is no longer obscured by Menu Eclipse, and improved behavior with tabbing through the items in the Typinator window when Full Keyboard Access is on.

Minor changes include a faster Quick Search when sets contain pictures, more detailed explanation of exceptional situations in the User's Guide, fixes expansion issues with aMSN, and some rewording that clarifies the new license model.

Those who download the new version may also notice that the installer now displays a more prominent warning when a new version is not covered by an older license.

VLC Media Player 1.1.3 should also be considered an important update, as it is one of the most platform-independent media players available, with versions for Mac OS X, GNU, Linux, BeOS, BSD and, of course, Microsoft Windows.

Many changes are listed by the people behind the VideoLAN Project, yet we sense readers of this piece are mostly interested in learning what is new for Mac.

Well, according to the changelog for version 1.1.3, both Windows and Mac are getting an update of many codecs libraries, fixing bugs and improving speed.

For Mac users only, architecture-specific installations will now be replaced by specific updates.

TapeDeck, a nice little recording app that simulates an old analog tape recorder, is now at version 1.3.3.

“So what’s new?”, you ask. First of all, developer SuperMegaUltraGroovy mentions Quick-Capture Workflow.

“You're always one click (or keystroke) away from a new recording, and your tape is automatically saved when you hit STOP,” it explains.

Lossless Recording is also now possible.

“Using the Apple Lossless Audio Codec, TapeDeck can capture your tapes with full fidelity, so you can ensure your musical ideas are kept intact when moved to Garage Band, or Logic,” SuperMegaUltraGroovy says.

Finally, the developer mentions that the TapeDeck UI has been treated to more animations and sound effects.
