The Resident Evil franchise is one of the most appreciated and respected horror zombie shooter series out there. It won over fans with its distinct gameplay and creepy atmosphere which engulfed the players as soon as they ventured through the first levels of the game. The multitude of enemies and different types of strategies that could be adopted in fighting them were numerous, which attracted players to go through the games several times.

But, sadly, what also made users play them again and again was the relative shortness of the titles, which didn't quite offer a well-polished experience. Resident Evil 4 changed that and offered a solid 12-hour gameplay, which gave players the satisfaction of completing such a great game. However, this quite long experience wasn't without faults, as it did seem a bit repetitive at times, making players go through some of the stages at least twice.

Now, with Resident Evil 5 currently in development, Capcom, the developer of the game, has talked, through the voice of Yasuhiro Anpo, the director of the title, about how long this game would be. He said that the team analyzed RE4 and cut out the parts that the fans didn't like, replacing them with more exciting experiences.

"Certainly, we've had to play through Resident Evil 4 a lot of times ourselves, and we understand what you're saying: It's a very long game. That it takes so long to play through is one of the tough parts about it. Resident Evil 5 will probably end up being a little shorter than Resident Evil 4. Like you said, we've looked at the parts of Resident Evil 4 that weren't so exciting, and we're going to cut some of them out. And in their place, we're going to add parts that are more exciting and have more impact."

Some very interesting statements, considering the fact that there's a pretty strong trend in the gaming industry to make titles of a reasonable length, in order to motivate players to complete them. 10 hours might be the golden time for quite a lot of upcoming games, which focus on offering a great experience that doesn't let players get bored.

Longer games are better as long as their exciting. Resident evil 4 i thought was fine. Wasn’t too long or too short. I mean, Final Fantasy VII ive played up to 180 hours. Same with most of the Final Fantasy titles. Metal Gear Solid 4 took about 20 hours my 1st play through which i thought was too short. If you rush you can beat it in 5 hours but theres so much to do and so many places to explore an average play through takes 15 to 20 hours. I hope they didnt take too much out of Resident Evil 5. I understand why the younger titles were much shorter but with the new Platforms and all they can get out of them, i wouldn’t mind if Resident Evil 5 was longer then 4. I remember completing the Resident Evil remake for Gamecube in 10 hours and thinking it was too short. And that was when I took my time. The older titles you can get through is less then 5 hours. One other thing, I actually thought Resident Evil 4 was too easy to rush through. once you play it a few times, memorized were all the items and treasures were, it was a cake walk. Hopefully 5 wont be like that. Too easy to get into a patern of how to complete it. Hopefully 5 will be more like Metal Gear Solid 4 and allow you many different options and paths to progress. Maybe Capcom should have asked Hideo Kojima for some advice.

I think this is a great thing. RE4 is one of my favorite games. There were some parts that I didn't look foward to, and I just wanted to skip them. I think if the director takes some parts out that were boring , and puts fun parts instead would be great. I still want it to be long though, but not as long as RE4. I love long games. I can't wait for this game to come out. I played the demo and I think it is far more better then RE4. (P.S=PS3 is the best!!!!!)

Okay i don't think resident evil 4 was 12 hours it was longer. It took me 18 hours and 16 mins to beat at first playthrough and my fastest time is 13 hours and 43 mins that was when i knew where all items and enimies were and how to quickly deal with bosses. Resident evil 5 is truly superior to re4 in everyway from graphics, to gameplay, to level design, good voice acting, more onscreen enimies for more adrenaline pumping combat and the coop accually makes it better infact i can't imagine the game without it. I just played online with a guy i do not know don't have a headset so i could not talk to him and even so it was still fun as hell. Plus there is offline splitscreen coop if you don't have online. The game should be it better be at least 12 or 13 hours for first playthrough at minimum. I do give it a 10 out of 10 and anyone who has a playstation3 or xbox 360 should deff look into buying, or renting this game just play it.

that's stupid.. capcom probably read the opinions and views of 12yo's who shouldn't even be playing the game to begin with.. because Hardened RE Vets would know that the longer the game is the more you get out of your money.. i will be so pissed if i can finish the game in one day (which i probably will) and i just hope with the shortened gametime they add a lot of replay value.. it's what makes RE worth playing over and over..

Uhmmmm I would really appreciate a longer game, it only took me 8 hours and 43 mins first play of RE4, and after i got the "Special" guns it only took me like 4 and a half
