The restless folks that make up the iPhone Dev Team have announced the availability of a simpler, more reliable jailbreak tool for users of an Apple iPod touch (second generation). Redsn0w, as the tool is called, is currently in beta, thus relies on the user running it from the command line. However, the team assures, the new functionality is being added into their GUI applications.

Also noteworthy (as long as we all remember that jailbreaking is bad, bad, bad) is that the team has released versions of Redsn0w for both Windows and Mac OS X simultaneously, with a Linux version also being available, unlike the old QuickPwn and PwnaeTool. Here's a piece of the team's blog post below.

Beta O'Clock Today at exactly 2 minutes past Beta O’Clock we are releasing a beta version of redsn0w. The release hopes to simplify the jailbreaking of your iPod touch 2G.

redsn0w is currently in beta as it relies on the user running it from the command line, but this new redsn0w functionality is being added into our GUI applications.

If you are not fully confident with using the command line, then hold off for those simpler tools that will be released sometime soon.
