The infamous iPhone Dev Team has managed to jailbreak Apple’s iPad 2 days after its launch. The Team broke the news via Twitter a few hours ago, with no estimated time of arrival for the actual jailbreak tool.

It is unclear at this point whether Dev Team member comex has achieved what is known as an ‘untethered’ jailbreak - a clean hack that allows users to jailbreak only once until a new firmware comes along.

All we know is what the picture above shows: a white WiFi+3G iPad 2 running Cydia - the jailbroken alternative to Apple’s App Store. Also noticeable is that the device is running on Verizon’s network.

Whether or not tethered, the jailbreak should arrive soon, since the Dev Team has found a working exploit to hack the iOS 4.3 firmware on Apple’s second-generation tablet computer.

“Congrats to @comex for jailbreaking yet another brand new device (iPad2) while 2500 miles away from it!”, reads a tweet signed @iphone_dev.

After being fully tested against all devices compatible with iOS 4.3, the Dev Team should be able to release an updated version of its PwnageTool application that jailbreaks not only iPads, but iPhones, iPod touch devices, and even the second-generation Apple TV.

No word on whether iOS 4.2 for the Apple TV has been jailbroken, but we’re guessing it won’t be long before a new version of Seas0npass comes along as well.

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
