As iOS fans should well know, an 'official' iPad 2 jailbreak is currently unavailable, but that doesn’t mean hackers aren’t hard at work trying to develop one.

In fact, according to the latest iPhone Dev Team blog entry, it’s under development and it will most likely be a ‘userland’ exploit when it comes out.

“The iPad2 jailbreak remains under development,” the team explains in a post dedicated to iOS 4.3.3 jailbreaks.

The hackers recently updated their PwnageTool and redns0w applications to offer complete support for jailbreaking Apple’s latest firmware on all devices except for the second-generation iPad.

Addressing faithful jailbreak fans, the team continues: “As you may know, the original exploit @comex developed in the first week of the iPad2 release was mysteriously fixed by Apple within days of its development.”

“Partly because of this, don’t expect much public discussion of the iPad2 jailbreak until it’s actually finished and ready for release (and please avoid asking about it),” says the infamous team of hackers.

Finally, they drop hints as to what users may expect on the tablet front, though no potential release date is being offered.

“In all liklihood, it will be a userland exploit like the first (unreleased) one, not dependent on bootrom dumps,” says the team. ”The first one can’t be released even for those with the original 4.3 firmware due to legal (distribution) reasons,” they explain.

As noted above, new versions of PwnageTool and redsnow are now available to the masses. They can provide an untethered jailbreak of the iOS 4.3.3 firmware.

Ultrasn0w unlockers are advised to stay away from redsn0w. PwnageTool (which only works on Macs) is the only jailbreak utility that will preserve their baseband for future unlocks.

The unlocking utility, available only through Cydia after a jailbreak has been performed, has also added support for iOS 4.3.3.

Updated to v1.2.3 to be compatible with the new IPSW, as well as earlier versions, ultrasn0w does not include any new baseband support, according to the Dev Team.
