The newly opened Eidos studio in Montreal didn't waste any time and started the work. And what a work! They announced that futuristic first person shooter Deus Ex will receive a new brother, number three in the series, that will be available for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, according to Actiontrip.com.
Stéphane D'Astous, former Ubisoft executive,
general manager of Montreal's studio, talked about Deus Ex 3 with Gamasutra.
At the moment, Eidos Montreal has two groups, one developer team that started the work on the latest Deux Ex in the series, and a testing group, responsible with games from all over the world. At the moment, about 80 people are involved in Montreal's studio, but the plan is for the numbers to reach 350 by 2009.
Stéphane D'Astous said: "We will want to limit our dev teams to a human-sized team of 80 people at the very highest of the peak in the production cycle. We don't want to become a huge studio where there's over 100 people on a title. We want a smaller, multi-discipline group that are tightly knitted together. But by doing so, we will give them at least 18 to 24 months for the production cycle."
And, as he himself notices, this is indeed something different, since most of the developers try to push the games out as quickly as possible. I guess we are all aware of the "game released, patch to come in a few days" habit and it's not something nice for the gamers.
Except for the fact that the development process of the game has just started and everybody is really excited about it, no other real information was given, such as a possible release date but, if we are to believe what D'Astous said about the 18 to 24 months on a project, it would mean that Deux Ex 3 should hit the market sometime early in 2009.
Until then, here is the fresh trailer to make the awaiting easier:
