Prequel style

Deus Ex: Human Revolution should arrive this year but apart from a brief atmosphere trailer released earlier in 2010, fans of the game universe have seen precious few images of the new videogame. The looks of the original Deus Ex, while not crucial to the experience, were among elements, which established its identity (how can anyone play the game and not develop a lot of questions related to how a head mounted gun could look?) and publisher Square Enix, which now owns Eidos, is apparently keen on establishing a unique visual style for the prequel.

In an interview with gaming site Gamasutra, Jacques Belletete, who is the art director working on the new Deus Ex at the Montreal studio of Eidos, said, “The Renaissance, it was the golden era, it was an age of discovery, an age of enlightenment... The phrase that we use in the game is 'It's not the end of the world yet, but you can see it from here.' So, it's almost as if it's like the end of that golden era.”

Belletete also states that the team working on the game has done its homework on what the future might look like and how technology will be integrated in human lives. The first Deus Ex came out in 2000 and the Montral team had to balance staying true to the vision it offered and making sure that the future seems plausible to those who live in the age of the iPad and of the always connected Internet user.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution will take place in 2027 and star a protagonist that will be able to receive a variety of mechanical augmentations. Apparently, the events will lead to the creation of UNATCO and the conspiracy-based story will lead players to cities like Detroit, Shanghai and Montreal.

Most of the game will be played from a first person perspective and it seems that a regenerative health system will be used for the main character.
