Deus Ex: Human Revolution is one of the big releases of this year and a game which has to face incredible expectations from the player base, all created by the impact that the initial game in the series made and by the way it affected game design over the last decade.

So far the developer at Eidos Montreal have made all the right moves, offering a rich cyberpunk setting and showing off a series of gameplay clips which aims to emphasize how varied the game can be and how each level will support a number of different approaches, based on both the choice of the player and on the choices he had previously made.

Steven Ciciola, who is the level designer creating Deus Ex: Human Revolution, has stated when speaking to the United States PlayStation Blog that, “We hope you all try playing through the game multiple times, using different styles of approach, and exploring every nook and cranny and possible option that we’ve made available to you.”

Previously, the developers have revealed that they will be offering more possibilities than initial gameplay videos have shown, with Ciciola adding, “There are so many different ways to progress through that I couldn’t possibly list them all; and chances are, there are even methods to progress through that we haven’t even thought of.”

Of course, we heard similar boasts of variety and freedom from other games in the last few years, with Fallout 3 claiming thousands of endings which turned up to be small variations on a limited number of big choices, so the claims from Eidos could in the end turn up to be just marketing promises.

We'll just have to play the game to find out.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was set to be launched before the end of March 31 of this year, but Square Enix has pushed back the game slightly, which is set to arrive on the PC and on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 home consoles.
