Ten people have been shot, at least two fatally during a gunfight on the streets of Detroit on Wednesday, November 6.

The incident took place at Al's Place barbershop as costumers were inside, at 6 p.m. The shooting is not uncommon on Detroit’s east side. The city has the second highest homicide and violent crime rate in the country.

Detroit police spokeswoman, Kelly Miner, described that men in two vehicles were involved in a gunfight outside the barbershop.

Clients were playing dice inside, and the location is a known gambling spot. Authorities are yet to determine if anyone inside the shop has been targeted.

"Somehow someone shot into the building, and that's when people rushed out of the building and were running into other area businesses for cover," Miner details for Fox 19.

All the people that were shot were males. The attackers first directed fire at the shop, then shot at people running out.

The victims might have been collateral damage in a shootout between the passengers of the vehicles.

However, they may have also been armed. Police are investigating whether they returned fire and knew the suspects.

"Suspects engaged a couple of victims. Several shots were fired. It's unknown if some of the victims fired back," Detroit Police Chief James Craig says in a statement.

The two vehicles and their drivers are yet to be found. The cars have been described as a white 2004 Chevrolet Impala and a 2004 black Impala.

Witnesses mention 30 to 40 shots ringing out in the altercation. Two passengers in the white Impala opened fire on the black vehicle, and a third car may have been following the two.

"It sounded rapid," Lorne Carter recalls for Detroit Free Press.

Police were looking for at least two shooters but made no arrests by Wednesday night.

"I can’t even imagine what would cause this type of violence," Craig adds.
