Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is working on a new version of its BlackBerry Internet Service, and some details on it have just leaked into the wild. The upcoming BIS 3.0 is yet to be announced officially by the maker of BlackBerry, yet those who are interested on what the company has in store for us with the update can already find some details on it via the recently leaked documents that BBLeaks brought to light.

Some of the improvements included in the document (via BGR) would be: - Gmail read/unread status will now sync on handsets with Enhanced Google Mail Plug-in and BlackBerry OS 4.6 or higher - Create and delete labels on device with Enhanced Google Mail Plug-in and BlackBerry OS 4.6 or higher - Support for additional attachment types, including: OpenDocument presentations (.odp), OpenDocument spreadsheets (.ods), OpenDocument text (.odt), OpenDocument text templates (.ott), and Windows Media Audio (.wma) - BlackBerry smartphone users will be instructed to contact their specific carrier and will be provided with carrier contact information in HTML and WAP error messages.

That Gmail read/unread status synchronization seems to be one of the nicest additions that Research In Motion has in store for the owners of a BlackBerry smartphone as soon as the BlackBerry Internet Service 3.0 update is released. However, this does not necessarily mean that all users out there will be able to enjoy the enhancement, since the deployment of the update is something that greatly depends on the carrier, but chances are that most of them will receive it.

According to the guys over at BBLeaks, the new BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) 3.0 is also making way for another update, which will come around as version 3.4. They also note that the BIS 3.0 update should land in Asia Pacific on February 6, 2010, that Europe should receive it on March 6, 2010, and that it is expected to arrive in North America on March 21, 2010.
