Symantec hopes to put an end to all the lack of trust in cloud systems

Symantec hopes to solve all cloud security related problems with the release of the new 03 platform, planned for launch sometime next year.

The solution offered by the company will be available both locally and as a service hosted on an external server, allowing administrators to better observe activities and behaviors in the attempt of preventing possible issues that might emerge, especially in the first part of the implementation process.

Nico Popp, vice president of the program, told V3 that with the use of the new platform, a single service will store all the web application related information, which can be later accessed from any device within the company.

Because all the log-in credentials will be contained in the cloud, users will have easy access to their applications, while administrators will be able to better manage all the existing accounts.

Popp explained that unlike a virtual private network, the 03 platform will be exclusively web-based, not requiring a client, which seems to be the weakness in a VPN.

Also, because all the encryption for data security will be made on a server, access from personal devices will be much safer and easier.

"This works on an iPad, this works on an iPhone and you don't even have to log into a VPN," he said.

With the release of the 03, Symantec hopes to make people regain trust in cloud computing solutions, after a wave of security related concerns formed around this subject.

Symantec's Vice-President of Research Joe Pasqua stated that, because this technology is a fairly new concept, the lack of trust is natural.

He compared the rise of this technology to the evolution of the computer, stating "The importance of a technology like 03 is how we can get the efficiency and flexibility of cloud services without getting into the same mess as 30 years ago."
