Fifth installment in the “Final Destination” franchise is out in August 2011

The “Final Destination” franchise kicked off in 2000, with the first film going to become a cult classic. Production is now heavily underway on the fifth installment, with the first details on the film popping up online.

As fans must know, the idea of all “Final Destination’ films is that you can’t cheat death, which is why a group of youngsters escaping certain death find out that it continues to come at them until it claims their life.

There is no variation to the Death theme in either of the films, the only difference between them being that, in time, the deaths got more gruesome, while special effects got better.

Just like the fourth film, the upcoming fifth will also be shot and released in 3D, Coming Soon informs. The release date is August 2011 for the US.

New Line is handling distribution rights, while Steve Quale will helm it, this being his first major directorial job. The cast includes some familiar faces as well.

“The new victims of Death’s plan are part of a cast led by Emma Bell (Frozen, TV’s ‘The Walking Dead’) and Nick D’Agosto (Fired Up!, TV’s ‘Heroes’). The film is being shot on location in Vancouver, Canada,” the e-zine notes.

“Rounding out the rest of the cast are Courtney B. Vance (TV’s ‘FlashForward,’ ‘ER’), David Koechner (‘The Office,’ Anchorman) and ‘Final Destination’ franchise icon Tony Todd (Hatchet II),” Coming Soon further says of the cast.

Since four previous installments have made this into a tradition, the upcoming film will stick to the same formula as regards plot as well.

“In this fifth installment, Death is just as omnipresent as ever, and is unleashed after one man’s premonition saves a group of coworkers from a terrifying suspension bridge collapse,” Coming Soon writes of the synopsis.

“But this group of unsuspecting souls was never supposed to survive, and, in a terrifying race against time, the ill-fated group frantically tries to discover a way to escape Death’s sinister agenda,” the e-zine further notes.

Producer Craig Perry returns to the franchise, while Sheila Hanahan Taylor, Erik Holmberg, Richard Brener, Walter Hamada and David Neustadter will act as executive producers.

“Final Destination 5” is based on a screenplay by Eric Heisserer, a household name with New Line, having previously done the recent “A Nightmare on Elm Street” for the studio.
