Through a medical database

Details of almost every Dutch resident, including celebrities and some criminals, can be found in a medical database available to approximately 80,000 people. Today,"The Register" writes that the Dutch Data Protection Authority started an investigation after it was reported that the medical database could reveal details about almost every person living in Netherlands. The matter was first reported by the Dutch newspaper "Trouw", which wrote that the information could be accessed by doctors, dentists and many other people in the country.

"The Vecozo medical database is used by health care workers to make payments easier and to check Dutch medical insurance data. At least 80,000 people are able to search the database", "The Register" continued.

Vecozo, the owner of the medical database, quickly replied that anyone who accessed the database was responsible for his actions, the same source continued. And they even believe the information is secure because the database is protected by a password and a security certificate. But who knows, maybe their security features are really efficient. Really now, there are hundreds, maybe thousands of hackers out there who could break into similar systems in a matter of minutes, so it's hard to believe the data is 100 percent protected.

In the recent few weeks, we've heard of too many data losses occurring all over the world, fact that makes me think nobody is safe nowadays, even if the data is stored on computers belonging to officials or government's representatives.

Besides the well-known HMRC data loss, numerous laptops containing valuable details were stolen. I'm pretty curios to see how you can get you laptop stolen, because I don't really think it's something like "Hey, here's a laptop. I take it!". So, let's just hope this new database doesn't turn into a new data loss victim and their security features are somehow efficient.
