It's unclear how the company will replace him and whether the game is affected

Joseph Staten, who was the main writer and the game director for Destiny, has departed video game developer Bungie, offering no clear reason for the move.

A statement is available on the official site of the game and says, “I'm leaving to tackle new creative challenges. While this may come as a surprise, fear not. It's been my pleasure building Destiny these past four years, and after the big reveal this summer, our hugely talented team is on track for greatness.”

Destiny is a very ambitious project that aims to mix genres and types of storytelling and many fans believe that losing such a key developer might affect the game in the long term.

Launch is set to take place in 2014 on the Xbox One, the Xbox 360 and current-gen consoles.

Staten has not said whether he is joining another company immediately or who will take over his duties.
