Bungie is striving to deliver big stages filled with many things to do

Bungie has talked a bit more about the size of Destiny, its upcoming shooter, and clarified a previous statement saying that each of its different planets is bigger than Halo: Reach, for example, saying that comparisons are tricky due to several aspects.

Destiny is the next big project from Bungie, the studio that created the Halo series and wants to reinvent multiplayer shooters with the new title, through a persistent online world and all sorts of fresh mechanics.

In case you forgot, players take control of Guardians of the last city on Earth and are able to explore different planets and moons from the solar system, including Earth, the Moon, Mars, Venus, or Europa.

Earlier this week, a statement from one of Bungie's developers mentioned that each of the aforementioned planets is bigger in size than Halo: Reach, the last game from the studio.

Now, two other representatives have confirmed on the Bungie forums that things are much trickier and that the comparison is tougher to define.

"At some point one of the artists made the rough size comparison for a team meeting to show off just how much stuff we were making at our quality bar. It's exciting, but not really something I'd want to throw out there for public consumption because it's hard to [define]. It's fuzzy math."

"It's hard to compare our spaces to Reach because our game is an ever-expanding world where one day the world you are discovering may be one size but the next you realize that there are more areas that open up."

According to the studio, it wanted to deliver a set of big worlds but also plenty of things to do in the actual stages, not just explore aimlessly.

"The spaces are big, and they're designed not just to give you room to roam, but to give you lots of interesting stuff to do. We have a lot of work to do to show them off in the right way this year. How big is Destiny? I don't know. I'm unsure if I've seen it all yet, let alone am able to compare. There are many places you won't be able to go to or see until further progression through activities."

Destiny is set to launch on September 9 worldwide for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. A beta stage is expected to debut before then, but no exact date has been given for it by Bungie.
