Plenty of content was removed from the game

A brand new report has appeared online concerning Destiny, the recently released shooter from Bungie, claiming that the game's story and major parts of its gameplay were drastically changed in 2013, resulting in the not-so-impressive experience that appeared at the beginning of the month.

Destiny launched on September 9 across the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms, after being hyped up as the next big online experience coming from Bungie, the studio that made the Halo franchise, and Activision, the publisher of the hit Call of Duty series.

Unfortunately for the two companies, Destiny didn't exactly deliver in terms of sales or success, as many fans were disappointed by the repetitive gameplay, the shoddy story, and the general unimpressive mechanics in the whole game.

Bungie pledged to improve all these aspects, but now a new report has appeared online claiming that almost all of the issues came after a major shakeup to the whole project that took place in 2013.

Plenty of changes were made to the game last year

The report appeared on Reddit and claims that, in 2013, Destiny's story and its gameplay were shaping up to be much more impressive, but in the mid- to late-2013 period, a series of drastic changes were implemented, culminating with the departure of Joe Staten, Bungie's lead writer, presumably due to these actual modifications made to the initial script.

Some changes include plenty of characters and factions that got pulled out of the whole game, including Crow, someone who represented a new party interested in exposing the Traveler, the mythical being that protects Earth, as being responsible for bringing forth the Darkness and all of its evil factions.

What's more, the actual factions that are present in the game's Crucible Player-versus-Player competitive mode were supposed to play much bigger roles in Destiny's story, but that was also cut, alongside other parts of the narrative.

Mission progression was also changed due to the overhaul of Destiny, as players were initially able to plot a different course through the four major environments in the game, as well as explore new areas of Earth, like Old Chicago, besides Old Russia.

Some of the original story was turned hastily into Grimoire cards

According to the report, a lot of the original story content was transformed into Grimoire cards, but because the solution was implemented so late into the game's development, the cards aren't visible inside the game and need to be viewed through the complicated Bungie website.

As of yet, Bungie isn't commenting on this report, but quite a lot of the rumors make some sense.
