Bungie has talked about its upcoming Destiny shooter and has emphasized that, while at a first quick glace the enemies might look a bit like the Covenant forces in the studio's other famous franchise, Halo, they're actually quite different.

Destiny is out next year, and developer Bungie has revealed an impressive gameplay demonstration back at E3 2013 last month and has showcased more details since then.

In a special blog post dedicated to answering letters from fans, Bungie has talked a bit more in-depth about the similarities between Halo's Covenant faction and the different enemies from Destiny.

"The Guardians won’t be the only fighting force in Destiny teeming with unique warriors. Take the Fallen, for example. When people saw them at E3, they were all too quick to compare them to the Elites you fought in Halo. In truth, the Fallen are as varied and diverse as the Covenant as a whole."

What's more, there are way more enemy varieties in Destiny, according to Bungie, each with different roles, tasks, and missions that must be achieved during combat.

"Check out the demo again, and see how many varieties you can spot. Some of the smaller targets, like the Shanks and Dregs, will draw your fire. The larger crews, the ones that include Vandals or Captains, will have you wishing you brought that Fireteam. And let’s not forget about those moments when we’ll drop something as big as a Devil Walker in your path."

Besides the Cabal, there are two more enemy factions, each with their own distinct style and composition, so players won't get bored anytime soon.

"The Cabal, along with the Vex and the Hive, are equally rich in their varieties. There are a lot of bad guys in Destiny. We need heroes to push them back whence they came."

Destiny is expected to receive way more details in the following months as we get closer to its release in 2014.
