Morla Gorrondona, the voice actress behind the character of Eris, which was introduced to Destiny via The Dark Below expansion, is quite impressed with her unique nature, as she gradually slips into madness as the plot progresses.

Destiny launched earlier this year and many first-person shooter fans were expecting not just great gameplay, but also a solid story, as developer Bungie was previously responsible for the Halo series, which earned hundreds of millions of fans over the years.

Unfortunately for them, the end result disappointed, as the gameplay was repetitive and the story lacked any meaningful moments to get players interested in the actual plot.

Bungie pledged to solve these issues, and with the first premium expansion, in the form of The Dark Below, the studio delivers more story missions that flesh out the Hive faction through quests offered by a new character called Eris.

Eris is brought to life by Morla Gorrondona

In order to bring Eris to life, Bungie went to voice actress Morla Gorrondona, who previously helped the studio on the screams of the Wizards and the screeches of the Thralls in the actual game. Her past experience helped her bring more character to Eris, according to an interview on the official website.

According to the actress, Bungie had a great idea about Eris but allowed her to bring a special twist to the character in order to make it feel more natural.

Of course, what really impressed her was the fact that Eris as a character was slowly slipping into madness after her time spent with the Hive.

"What intrigued me most was the arc of her story as a whole. I don’t think I’m giving anything away by saying this, but I really got into the gradual revealing of her madness as the player progresses in the game. Some of the lines when Eris has just lost it are among my favorites," she explains.

Eris is a conflicted character

Gorrondona also explains that there are two themes central to the character of Eris, in the form of a respect for the Hive, after living inside the faction, but also a desire to destroy it in order to keep the rest of the world safe.

"The two themes that were the most impactful to me were the ideas that Eris is on the brink of madness without giving in to it, and that - because she has lived among the Hive and knows them - she has an odd reverence for them that is only matched by her desire to see them obliterated," she adds.

You can talk to Eris and listen to her background story in Destiny's Tower zone after buying The Dark Below.
