It's still much better than cheesing the game

It appears that an intrepid player has finally managed to solve the problem with grinding in Destiny, by creating a robot that does all the work for you.

One player decided that the wealth of cheesing tactics employed by Destiny users aren't enough, and that Bungie multiplayer-oriented first-person shooter can also do with some botting.

Thankfully, it's not an aimbot and won't do anything more than you can already do (actually, it will do it even worse than you could), but it's still something to help you face the immense boredom of grinding.

The automation system won't get you too far, but at least it's possible to shave off some hours from leveling a new character, which is always an incredible bore in massively multiplayer online games, especially if you're any good at them.

Reddit user yavin427 posted his creation along with a couple of videos showing it an action. The small robot is a homebrew that, in true MacGyver fashion, uses a lot of duct tape to work. The robot automates pressing the melee attack button on an Xbox controller, which enables you to kill an endless stream of enemies, if you find yourself at the right location.

If you can't be bothered to grow your own char, robots are the way to go

The locale of choice for using this is an early Ocean of Storms level on the moon, where the enemies keep coming and the bot keeps melee-ing them until death. Their death, your death, it doesn't really matter, as both will just respawn at the last checkpoint and start all over again.

You can find a video showing the contraption at work below, as well as a more refined version that also does some shooting between melee strikes to make it more efficient.

"Just a fun little thing i wanted to try. It's an arduino sweeping a servo back and forth 40 degrees. The tape solution is less than ideal, and I think I could actually get an extra punch in there if I wanted. But as this is supposed to be the lazy man's solution, any time spent on optimizing this feels wrong, lol," yavin427 says.

You can follow the whole discussion to see how the gamer tackled the issue of being booted by the game for inactivity and to read a glorious quote from Larry Wall, the creator of the Perl programming language.
