Sony has confirmed that Destiny is the biggest PS4 game to have ever been released, breaking records in terms of activity and sales on its own platform and resulting in plenty of people making the jump to the new home console.

Destiny has been a long time coming, as developer Bungie, which previously worked on the Halo franchise, wanted to take its time and deliver a worthy first-person shooter experience across the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms.

However, thanks to a partnership between Sony and publisher Activision, Destiny has been heavily marketed on the PS4, as all videos showed the game on that platform, while plenty of exclusive content for PS3 and PS4 owners is available.

Destiny had the biggest PS3 game launch ever

The investment has officially paid off, as Sony has confirmed on the PS blog that Destiny had the biggest PS4 game launch ever in the North American territory. What's more, besides selling plenty of game copies, Destiny has also helped the PS4 move a lot of console units, coming close to the peak registered at Christmas last year.

"Since Destiny launched one week ago, it has officially become the biggest PS4 game launch in North America ever. The game broke records for being the fastest purchased and most played PS4 game during its first week on sale," Sony's Adam Boyes says.

"In fact, last week was our single biggest PS4 hardware sales week since Christmas 2013! That’s a lot of PS4s. Thanks, Guardians!"

Destiny is also one of the most played games on the PS4 right now

What's more, Destiny is also enjoying a lot of popularity with actual players, as the title has seen millions of sessions started by PS4 owners ever since its release last week.

"Destiny also racked up some impressive gameplay stats, with PS4 players across North America collectively accumulating more than 11 million gameplay sessions – that’s a lot of Guardians! Destiny players have also made full use of PS4’s social features; it was the most shared and most broadcasted PS4 game during its first week on sale."

New regular and exclusive content is coming

Boyes has also confirmed that Bungie has plenty of different in-game events, as well as new add-ons for Destiny in development and that PS3 and PS4 owners can look forward to receiving even more exclusive content in the near future, so that they can rest assured about their investment in both the game and their consoles.
