Destiny, the long awaited first-person shooter from Bungie and Activision, has reached gold status, meaning work on it has been completed and it's ready for launch on September 9 around the world.

Destiny has been a long time coming and for quite a while the team at Bungie has been toiling away at the multiplayer shooter under a shroud of secrecy. The first public unveiling happened a few years ago and, since then, the studio has been trying to relay just how ambitious is project is.

Thanks to the alpha and beta test phases, however, lots of gamers had a chance to get a first-hand impression of how the first-person shooter plays and how it can augment the regular multiplayer experiences seen on consoles nowadays.

Now, Bungie has confirmed on its website that the game is ready for launch, as it's just reached gold status.

"Now, we’re very close to launch – the final weeks. This next milestone carries a heavier weight of finality. Destiny is Gold. Discs are being pressed and packed into crates. Destiny is done, in some respects. Even now, so close to the end, it still feels like we’re just getting started," the studio said.

Bungie also emphasizes that, while work on the final build of the game is complete, things are just getting stated in terms of DLC and post-launch support, so players shouldn't worry about the studio abandoning the game upon release.
