Bungie has confirmed that it's going to debut an overhauled version of the Iron Banner event for its Destiny online first-person shooter, which should put a much bigger emphasis on great gear, while offering plenty of attractive rewards to all those who succeed in it.

Destiny launched at the beginning of September, and even thrugh millions of fans were quite impressed with the temporary alpha and beta stages, the end result disappointed quite a few of them, as its action was repetitive, its story lackluster, and its rewards not that impressive.

Fortunately, developer Bungie wasn't swayed by the negative feedback and rolled out quite a few updates designed to improve the whole experience, from its content to its rewards and much more.

A new and tweaked Iron Banner event is coming

At the same time, the studio also organized different in-game events that provided temporary adventures and plenty of rewards. Among them was the Iron Banner, a competitive challenge that was advertised as being something only the best players could complete, as the level advantage setting was turned on, meaning higher level users would be much more powerful than lower level ones.

The result, however, wasn't that great, as players still felt like they were in regular matches where the level advantage was turned off. Bungie quickly reacted to the feedback and promised that tweaks would be made to the next edition of the event.

Level advantages have been increased

Now, in the latest weekly update on the Bungie blog, the studio's Lead Designer, Tyson Green, confirms that the next edition of the Iron Banner is already being tested internally and should feature a much more impressive level advantage.

"The goal for Level Advantages in PVP had been to create relatively small advantages that would suffice only to tilt the balance between players of equal skill towards the player of greater achievement, expressed in terms of his gear," he explains.

"But we now believe we have been too conservative, and that small tilts failed to meet anyone’s expectations. In the next Iron Banner, we will debut a much more dramatic difference between players of wide variation in Level."

New restrictions and rewards are included

Due to the new mechanics, a fireteam needs to have a leader of at least level 20 to be allowed in the Iron Banner playlist. Also, losing isn't so bad anymore, as upon a failure, players will get a Medallion of Iron. When players win a match, each medallion they have will convert into a reputation gain that's almost the same as that of the win, so nothing is lost.

Expect to hear more about Destiny's new Iron Banner event in the following weeks.
