The focus is now on the player community and its battles

When Destiny was launched, the development team at Bungie announced that a team of developers would enter the first-person shooter every week for a limited time period in order to engage with the community in the Crucible, with those players who were able to defeat them getting access to both a special emblem to use and to bragging rights.

After three weeks the studio is changing the rule of the game and is now shifting the focus to the players who are still engaged with the title, and today’s event is set to focus on a team of players who have claimed that they are better than the rest.

The official announcement on the Destiny site states, “For the first three hunts, the targets have been developers from our own Bungie Team. We’ve had a metric ton of fun mixing it up in the Crucible, defending our honor, and anointing a hero or two in the arena. Not everyone, however, has been pleased.”

The new Destiny Bounty takes place from 7 to 8 PM Greenwich Mean Time on the PlayStation 4 and involves the following players: Moreconsole, MyNameIsByf, Fraser Baws, Destiny Overwatch and Unknown Player.

Deej, the Bungie community manager, will join them in order to document the action and is ready to also take part in the fire fights.

He adds, “You can expect me to fire back if fired upon. If you can win, you’ll have an emblem as evidence of your competitive ferocity. If these fellows evade your treachery and emerge from the official hour of combat undefeated, we’re giving your prize to them.”

A focus on events and expansion for Destiny

The launch of Destiny was successful, although there are plenty of gamers who are criticizing the fact that Bungie has offered a relatively limited range of content in the social shooter.

At the moment, the company is running a number of events to keep the community involved in the long term and is tweaking the core mechanics using regular updates.

A bigger expansion, called The Dark Below, will be offered on all platforms before the end of the year, designed to be followed by another one in the spring of 2015.

Bungie says that it has a ten-year plan for Destiny and that it will initially focus on the launch of new content, but it will also explore the possibilities that would be opened up by a full-blown sequel.
