Bungie confirms that things are still being nailed down

Progress made by Destiny beta players might be available for transfer into the full game once it's released in September, according to Bungie, but the developer emphasizes that there are still quite a lot of unknown variables.

Destiny is set to debut later this year across quite a few platforms and, ahead of its September launch, developer Bungie wants to debut a small beta version on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One consoles, to ensure that everything works as intended.

As you can imagine, quite a lot of fans want to try out the beta and make as much progress as possible, so that they start the final game with a lot of previous knowledge.

According to Bungie's David Dague, who has talked with Eurogamer, that progress might be available for transfer once the final game releases in the beginning of fall.

Dague mentions that there are plenty of unknown variables and that the feature might not be possible but, right now, it's something Bungie is looking at.

"The beta is a test. It's extremely unknown as to what the outcome will be. So, it's certainly not a promise or an announcement that we're making at this time. It all depends on what we learn and how things shake out. So, we're certainly not telling players they can carry their progress over, but we haven't made any announcements either way," he says.

One thing's for certain, as PS4 owners will not be able to transfer the progress they made during last month's alpha into the beta.

Even so, they'll be able to observe plenty of modifications made to the game based on their feedback, according to Dague.

"When you start to play in the beta you're going to instantly observe some of the different things we've changed in direct response to feedback we gained during the alpha. Some of those things will be front and center - you won't be able to miss them. Again, I'll let you discover those things for yourself."

The developer emphasizes that Bungie is eager to see how Destiny will behave on the new platforms after the really successful alpha on PS4.

"We're also opening it up to four platforms, so the sampling will be so much larger. Now we have a pretty good understanding of how this thing works on the PS4, we can see if that proof of concept holds up on the other three platforms we have yet to see."

Destiny's beta begins on July 17 for PS4 and PS3 users and on July 23 for those on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The test concludes on July 27 worldwide.
