Windows XP actually boosted its market share last month

If you’re wondering what’s going to happen with Windows XP in two months, the answer is becoming quite obvious. Plenty of users will still be running it when the end of support comes, as new stats show that Windows XP actually boosted its market share last month.

Figures provided by Net Applications for the month of January 2014 show that Windows XP has increased its market share from 28.98 percent in December to 29.23 percent last month, despite all Microsoft efforts to emphasize the risks of running an unsupported operating system.

While it’s hard to understand how come more users installed Windows XP last month, one possible explanation could be the amount of consumers who tried newer platforms such as Windows 8 but returned to XP due to a number of reasons.

Of course, Microsoft cannot be pleased with such news, especially because the company wanted to cut Windows XP’s share to only 13 percent by April. Mission failed.
