It looks like Atom Silvermont will have to settle for the underdog's post

It wasn't that long ago that Intel revealed the Atom Silvermont processor, and the supposedly massive implications it had for the tablet market.

Intel hopes to finally score a big set of points on the tablet industry.

Alas, if it thought it could truly ride the success of the slate market, it was mistaken, or so Tech Trader Daily reports.

While Silvermont presents a massive opportunity, the “Haswell” Core i series of CPUs is more important and likely to make cash.

Thus, despite tablets basically cannibalizing the market share of notebooks and desktops, Intel won't get to reap all the benefits it might want. Android slates and the Apple iPad will hold their ground well there, and the ARM architecture (NVIDIA's Tegra 4, Qualcomm new Snapdragons, Samsung Exynos) continues to hold its lead in terms of performance-per-watt.
