Users claim that in some cases, the update did more harm than good

Microsoft last week delivered a new fix for Surface Pro 3 tablets affected by limited Wi-Fi connectivity issues, trying to enhance wireless connections and remove any bug that could interrupt or slow down data transfer at random times.

The patch was delivered as a firmware update and was shipped to everyone via Windows Update, but it appears that some Surface Pro 3 owners are actually experiencing even more issues after getting it.

Basically, some of those who purchased a tablet claim that their devices started suffering from limited Wi-Fi after being offered the update, while others explain that Surface Pro 3s are now dropping wireless connections a lot more often than before.

One of the users who posted on Microsoft’s Community forums describe the issue he’s experienced in detail, pointing out that he might even return the tablet in case Microsoft does not address the matter as soon as possible.

Here’s part of the message he posted a couple of days ago, after installing the update:

“After yesterday's update, I now have almost constant connectivity issues with the WiFi. I'll be browsing along, watching a YouTube video or checking email, and the WiFi connection just goes away. When I swipe over and check the settings, sometimes the network is listed but not connected, other times no networks are found, and other times it reconnects itself before I even have a chance to check it, only to drop again a few seconds later.

“I am sorry to say that this update has made my SP3 much much worse and entirely useless, since everything depends on internet connectivity. I will try a reboot (again) and a few more hours of testing it, but at this point I am extremely disappointed to say that the only recourse is to return it and go back to my SP1. I love everything else about this machine, but without a stable connection, the cost simply cannot be justified.”

The Surface Pro 3 was launched on May 20 and comes with a 12-inch screen and several storage options, with the top of the range version offering 512 GB of storage space.

At the same time, the top model is equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor and 8 GB of RAM, while also running the full version of Windows 8.1 Pro and thus offering support for desktop applications such as Adobe Photoshop and games that usually need to be played on PCs.
