Continuing the run of their successful franchise “Despicable Me,” Universal has announced the release date for the third installment in the series.

“Despicable Me 3” has been revealed to come to theaters on June 30, 2017. The big delay in production is due to the fact that, in the meantime, the studio will be working on a spinoff called “Minions” which will be coming out in July, 2015.

“Despicable Me 2” was one of the most successful animation motion films last year, in fact one of the most successful films of any kind, coming in second in the overall American box office in 2013.

Also, it managed to snag a nomination at this year's Oscars, one for best animation film, which is saying a lot. This way, “Despicable Me” gets recognition and it also placed above the run-off-the-mill animated productions.

Other projects from Illumination Entertainment, the division which is overseeing production, include an adaptation of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” in November 2017.
