She’s one of the hottest, most inspiring and good looking female stars of the day but, as per her own admission, Christina Hendricks still can’t find a dress for the red carpet in due time.

Her stylist Lawren Sample explains for the Daily Mail how her client, the most talked about curvy star of the moment, can’t find a designer to dress her: it’s because they don’t carry sizes larger than 0 or 2 tops.

Christina herself said shortly before the Emmy Awards 2010 that she still didn’t have anything to wear. Eventually, she attended in a gorgeous feathery Zac Posen creation made specifically for her, stealing the show.

This, of course, begs the question of just how blind and uptight the industry is not to want to dress a star that can generate this kind of positive media, the Mail points out.

It’s a vicious circle, Sample explains, because designers only have samples – samples that are made on size 0 models.

“Most of the time Christina can’t fit into samples. Sometimes she can get into it if it has a little stretch, but not often,” Christina’s stylist says.

“She’s a woman, she’s got a woman’s body. But most actors these days, there’s nothing to them – they’re a clothes hanger. If you have a fitting with anyone else – her Mad Men co-star January Jones, for example – she’s going to get 50 beautiful runway samples sent to her,” Lawren goes on to say.

Things are very different with Christina, though. Unless a designer agrees to make something especially for her, she can’t possibly wear a designer gown on the red carpet.

“We need to have dresses made. If we don’t have them made, we have to get a larger size that’s been made for someone else but never worn, or a vintage piece,” Sample says.

For the Emmys and for all other big events Christina attended this past year, her stylist had to beg, telling designers her client was a big fan of their work and would love to wear something they made on a given occasion.

Never before has a star as mediated as Christina had to beg for a dress, the Mail writes, because designers are all too eager to have their creations on the red carpet, where they get countless times more exposure than on the catwalk.

“They’ll say: ‘Unfortunately, we don’t have the sizes to support her,’ or ‘Unfortunately, we only have a size two or four’,” Sample says.
