Microsoft is yet to add big changes to File Explorer

Microsoft has indeed implemented several changes to Windows 10 in terms of looks and visual effects, but the company is yet to improve File Explorer in any way, even though users know exactly what they want to get (e.g. tabs).

Until Microsoft comes up with some improvements in this regard, designers across the world try to make the most of this opportunity and create their own concepts that imagine some of the features that users expect to get when Windows 10 comes out in late 2015.

This concept created by Metroversal proposes a completely new File Explorer design that has not only more eye-candy elements but also new features such as tab support.

Transparency is optional in this version of File Explorer, the designer says, but the new icons, which are based on those available in Office 2013 but are flatter, are not.

The ribbon UI has also been revamped and there's even a hamburger style button that could help the company embrace the convergence approach that's supposed to bring phones and PCs closer together.

Worth a look for Microsoft

The design indeed looks great, and although it still needs some refinements here and there, there's no doubt that Microsoft would make itself a favor by at least having a look at it.

As for the real File Explorer, more changes are expected in the coming months, and yes, tab support is already being considered, according to our sources, but a decision is yet to be made.

Microsoft has promised to greatly improve Windows 10 for mouse and keyboard users, so adding tab support in File Explorer is one of the ways that could make working with files easier on the traditional PC.

A Technical Preview build that could come with such improvements might be released to Windows Insiders in the coming months before the fall 2015 launch of the full operating system.
