Video game hardware developer and video game publisher Nintendo has announced that the design of the new Wii U home console that was shown at E3 2011 is not final and that a number of changes might be made to the hardware and to how it looks before it is released.

Reggie Fils-Aime, who is the president and the chief executive officer at Nintendo of America, has stated, “In terms of the form factor of the console, it is quite near final.”

He added, “Similarly the form factor of the controller is quite near final” and noted that, “What we wanted to do was in a home environment, taking advantage of this multiple screens This was not conceptualized as an on-the-go piece of equipment.”

When the Wii U was revealed at the press conference that Nintendo held on the first day of E3 2011, most of the talk on stage and most of the reports were focused on the all-new controller of the new console, which incorporates a touch screen and also offers players all the standard dual stick control options.

After the event Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo and the man demonstrating its capabilities, has admitted that his company should have offered more information on the actual hardware of the device and on its features outside of the controller.

Fils-Aime says that at no point did Nintendo think about making the controller for the Wii U a wholly separate piece of hardware, which could be used as a tablet on the go and could then be linked to the home console.

Nintendo says that it has created the Wii U so that it can reach more gamers than the normal Wii and that the new controller will make it easier to control games and will allow for more diverse gaming experiences.

The console is expected to launch during 2012 for more than 250 dollars.
