Video game publisher Electronic Arts is aiming to register a trademark for Desert Strike, which suggests that it might be looking to remake or to reboot the classic shooter experience that was introduced in 1992.

The application refers to video games and associated products, but it offers no other details on what it might be used for, according to AllGamesBeta.

The publisher has not commented on the potential future of Desert Strike.

The game, with the subtitle Return to the Gulf, allows gamers to pilot an attack helicopter in an unnamed Arab country that has been taken over by a terrorist.

Players need to take out enemy units and positions while making sure that they avoid all incoming fire and collect all powerups, but it offers a more strategic experience than other titles in the same genre.

The game was clearly modeled on the war in Iraq that took place in 1991 and it's unclear how it could be rebooted to appeal to the tastes of modern players.
