Descent: Underground aims to bring back the "six degrees of awesome" of the original '90s shooter through Kickstarter.

Descendent Studios has just launched its crowdfunding campaign on the popular Kickstarter platform, seeking to raise $600k / €566k in order to develop a modern rendition of the timeless classic.

The devs promise blasting enemies, collecting loot, and leveling up as part of the deal, as well as a ton of exciting combat inside asteroids.

Back in 1995, Descent took the world by storm, by introducing never-before-seen mobility and freedom of movement and an exciting premise, as well as heart-pounding multiplayer matches set in a fully 3D environment.

Descent: Underground is the planned reboot of the classic, a first-person vehicle shooter set in the asteroid fields between Mars and Jupiter, around 300 years in the future.

As one would expect, Earth is overpopulated and running low on natural resources, so the giant corporations that now run things are pointing at each other as the culprits for the dire situation everyone is in.

The game has a bit of a MOBA flavor

The game promises to offer a great 3D flight experience and balanced first-person ship combat. You will also have to gather resources and upgrade your ship, in a competition that has turned into televised entertainment for the people back home.

As a pilot struggling to bring a sliver of hope to mankind, you become a larger-than-life hero figure, and your life depends on your reputation and on the sponsorship deals you can land and on the adoration of millions of people on Earth.

Thus, you will compete on the corporate ladder with other pilots, in a variety of categories such as kills, ore harvested, tunnels created, missions completed and more.

There are eight different ships to choose from, each of them offering a different kind of experience, tailored to a different approach to the game, from sturdy tanks that can trade blows with the best of them to support and repair ships that bolster allies in multiplayer matches.

The game is expected out sometime around March 2016.
