3-time Dancing With the Stars champion Derek Hough is not featured in the current season of the show, but that’s not to say he won’t ever be back. Hough is taking some time off to focus on new projects, but he promises he will make the wait worth the while.

As we also noted some time ago, Derek, a favorite with fans of the show, has chosen to sit out for one season while he works on his big screen debut, a film called “Cobu 3D.”

Nevertheless, trying his hand at something new, such as acting, doesn’t mean he will be away from the dancing ring for too long.

Moreover, as he promised back when he first made the announcement that he would be sitting this season out, Derek plans to make his comeback a splashing one, he says in a recent interview with People magazine.

“I told the told the producers I’m going to come back with a few new tricks,” the professional dancer reveals. Indeed, that he did.

In the meantime, though, Derek, once used to being the teacher, has now become the student, in a bid to make his acting debut a great one.

“I’m learning so much. I’ve been teaching so long and it’s interesting because now I’m like the student,” Hough was saying for the same publication just a short while ago.

“The role I’m playing required me to do things I haven’t done before. I’m doing a lot of tapping, which is interesting because I’m not much of a tapper,” he revealed.

For the time being, Derek wants rival Maksim Chmerkovskiy to “have this one” while he’s away from DWTS, but he doesn’t want Maks to get too comfortable.

Speaking of Maksim, he and partner Kirstie Alley are doing wonderfully on the show, despite odds being somewhat against them as a pair.

Oppositely, Kendra Wilkinson, a favorite to win this season, got off to a rather rocky start, scoring well below Kirstie, presumably because she let nerves get the best of her.
