Staff at Denver Zoo in the US are happy to announce that this facility is now home to three adorable spotted hyena cubs. Of these young hyenas, one is a male and the other two are females.

The cute creatures were not born at this facility. Thus, the male, which was born at Buffalo Zoo on June 26, arrived at Denver Zoo on July 31, Zoo Borns tells us.

The females, whose birthday is on June 11, arrived from a private facility in Houston, Texas, only a few days ago, on August 1, the same source informs.

For the time being, spotted hyenas are not in danger of going extinct in the near future. However, efforts are being made to ensure that these animals will never fall of the biodiversity map.

Thus, conservationists and wildlife enthusiasts are doing their best to secure genetic diversity among animals belonging to this species that are held captive at various zoos.

For the time being, the cubs all find themselves in quarantine. However, staff at Denver Zoo hope that they will soon be able to introduce them to each other and to the world. Hopefully, they will one day produce cubs of their own.

“These animals are critical to the survival of Spotted Hyenas in AZA-accredited zoos, and we have been working to bring more hyenas to Denver Zoo for at least two years,” said Denver Zoo’s Curator of Large Mammals, Hollie Colahan.

Furthermore, “This is a great example of cooperation between an AZA zoo, a private facility, and Denver Zoo to support the SSP's goals for a sustainable population.”
