Former athlete is getting ready to return to North Korea in August

Dennis Rodman is feeling underappreciated after all the efforts he put into improving the diplomatic relationship between the United States and North Korea, by personally flying over there to hang out with Kim Jong-un.

In fact, the former athlete turned reality star says in a recent interview cited by Pro Basket Ball Talk, he should at least be shortlisted for a Nobel Peace Prize if not actually awarded one for the same efforts.

Though in previous interviews Rodman said he only reached out to Kim Jong-un because no one else would and the crisis was deepening, he’s now changed his mind and believes some sort of recognition is due to him.

“My mission is to break the ice between hostile countries. Why it’s been left to me to smooth things over, I don’t know. Dennis Rodman, of all people. Keeping us safe is really not my job; it’s the black guy’s [Obama's] job. But I’ll tell you this: If I don’t finish in the top three for the next Nobel Peace Prize, something’s seriously wrong,” he says.

Rodman also points out that, since his visit to North Korea, Kim Jong-un has toned down his threats to other countries. The least President Obama could do was accept his invitation to shoot hoops.

“Fact is, he hasn’t bombed anywhere he’s threatened to yet. Not South Korea, not Hawaii, not … whatever. People say he’s the worst guy in the world,” Rodman says.

“All I know is Kim told me he doesn’t want to go to war with America. His whole deal is to talk basketball with Obama. Unfortunately, Obama doesn’t want to have anything to do with him,” he continues.

“I ask, Mr. President, what’s the harm in a simple phone call? This is a new age, man. Come on, Obama, reach out to Kim and be his friend,” Dennis adds.

As we also noted on previous occasions, Rodman really has a serious bone to pick with Obama, whom he accused before of not doing anything to smoothen things out on a diplomatic level.

In another interview that made headlines around the world, he claimed that he had been hired by the FBI and “planted” as a spy in North Korea.
