I don't think that Dennis Bergkamp is seeking more enthusiasm from Arsenal's fans. He's been with the team for as long as I can remember and he's planning his retirement later this week. His testimonial will take place in Arsenal's new stadium - The Emirates Stadium - and will be the gunners' first match on the new arena. As a reward for all that he's done for the team, Bergkamp will get to be the first player to touch the ball in Arsenal's new home.
Since he won't be playing for Arsenal anymore - actually, he has retired from international football a while ago - Dennis decided to make a few predictions for the season to come. And, since Chelsea and Manchester seem like the Premiership favorites for the moment, Bergkamp had a different approach. He praised Arsene Wenger's power to create a team out of nowhere and take it all the way into the Champions League final.
As for the Premiership, the Dutchman is pretty convinced that, despite the new transfers, Chelsea will not be winning like the last season: "Last year gave a lot of teams some confidence because Chelsea dropped some points. Liverpool and Manchester United and us will be up there, there is more of a chance for the other teams this year. If you have a strong team with a solid defense, which is what Arsenal has worked on in the last two seasons, there are always players in this team that can make the difference, score goals and win games for you".
Before his retirement match, Bergkamp also praised Arsenal's new star, Tomas Rosiky. The Czech Republic player was transferred from Borussia Dortmund and will substitute Robert Pires in Arsenal's midfield. The Dutchman said that there's no point in bringing a lot of strikers on the team - like Chelsea did - since: "You can have six world-class strikers but you can only play two, maybe three". Arsenal will start their European season in the Champions League qualifying round, on the 8/9th of august.
