Demonoid, one of the world's largest BitTorrent sites and the largest that operates its own tracker has been missing in action for a week now. The site has been down due to a massive DDoS attack, but it seems there's more than that to it.

In fact, the Ukrainian authorities have now raided the data center that housed Demonoid, copied all the relevant data and seized some equipment.

This puts the DDoS attack and the subsequent hacking in perspective. It seems it was all a coordinated effort. And it was no coincidence that Ukraine authorities have now taken down the site, the country's Deputy Prime Minister Valery Khoroshkovsky is visiting the US at this very time. On his agenda are copyright infringement talks.

So the site being shut down is nothing more than a present to US authorities, pushed by the powerful media industry lobbying groups. However, even if the site may be down, its owner is not. He or she may not even be from the Ukraine, so Demonoid could come back up at a different host.
