Demon's Souls, one of the most unexpected titles that appeared back in 2009, will see its online multiplayer support continue well into the next year, as Atlus, its publisher, revealed it would continue to stand by the hardcore role-playing game.

In a market where true role playing games are few and far in between, Demon's Souls really broke out into the market, despite being a PlayStation 3 exclusive and largely unknown to the American public.

Luckily, the title won over fans through its challenging nature and its interesting online services.

Now, Atlus, the publisher of the game, has announced that the online support will be extended well past the initial shut-down date of March, 2011, and continue until the game's second anniversary, on October 6, next year.

The announcement was made by Aram Jabbari, manager of PR and sales at Atlus.

"We've said it before and we'll say it again," said Jabbari. "We will support the online servers for Demon's Souls as long as we possibly can, and we'll be as transparent about the entire process as possible, hence us constantly updating folks as to what to expect.

The Atlus representative started to joke, saying that the game's servers have a life of their own, and will continue to work in the future by themselves.

"That said, we're starting to think … the servers may have taken on a bit of a... life of their own. Have you played the game? It's not just one of the most brilliant role-playing games ever made; it's darn challenging, too. It's starting to feel like even if we wanted to, we couldn't shut things down."

Demon's Souls' multiplayer allows players to leave notes in the game world, in order to warn others of approaching dangers or enemies, as well as share strategies about upcoming enemies.
