Besides wanting to buy HTC (were we to believe the recent rumors), Sony Ericsson doesn't sit around doing nothing and is preparing the release of several new handsets from its 2008 line-up. Two of these phones are the Z780 and G502 models, both announced at the end of April, in the same press release.

The official demo videos for Z780 and G502 were made public yesterday, which means that both handsets should hit the market in a short time. No surprise there, since Sony Ericsson did say that the phones are set for a "second quarter" launch.

With a design not too different from the one of Z770, the Z780 clamshell is a pretty good-featured device. The handset comes with quad-band GSM and tri-band HSDPA connectivity, a 2.2 inch main display with 262k colors and 240 x 320 pixels, GPS and A-GPS, Google Maps, email, Instant Messaging, NetFront 3.4 browser, Bluetooth 2.0, Media player, FM radio, a 2 Megapixel camera with video recording, 35MB of expandable memory and so on. The handset weighs 100 grams, measures 92 x 49 x 16 millimeters and packs a battery that should offer up to 9.5 hours of talk-time and up to 350 hours of stand-by time.

Also known as Sony Ericsson Emelie, the G502 is the third-announced candybar from SE's new G-series of phones. As the Z780, Emelie features both GSM and 3G connectivity, Google Maps, NetFront 3.4 browser, IM and email capabilities, Bluetooth, Music player, USB, a 2 Megapixel camera and a 240 x 320 pixel TFT display with 256K colors. The G502 has a fancy keypad and a good-looking case that weighs only 83 grams and measures 109 x 46 x 13.5 millimeters.

Sony Ericsson Z780 will be available in Amethyst Silver and Grand Onyx, while Sony Ericsson G502 will come in Champagne Black and Brilliant Hazel. Users should expect both phones to have decent (but unknown yet) retail prices. Until they hit the market, enjoy the videos below.
