Actress Demi Moore was recently featured on the cover of the famous magazine W. Dressed in a splendid Balmain creation, the star seemed incredibly frail in the photo, and a chunk of her hip actually appeared to be altogether missing, which left the fabric hanging in mid-air. Now, the star and her attorneys are going to war against Boing Boing for saying that the photo had been massively retouched until barely recognizable.

Though other stories in the media, as we also reported a while back, even said that Moore’s body had been replaced altogether with that of very slim model Anja Rubik, her attorneys believe that the Boing Boing story on the cover in question was very detrimental to her image. Therefore, they are suing the e-zine, along with several other media outlets, including the Huffington Post, the NBC New York, MSNBC, The Sun, The Hollywood Reporter, that have covered the story.

Cease and desist letters have been fired off by Moore’s legal representatives, saying that allegations of massive retouching are doing serious damage to her public image. “[Moore’s] appearance is of great importance to her career and livelihood, and false claims or insinuations that she secretly uses extraordinary artificial means to alter her appearance are extremely damaging. [Her] reputation has been tarnished by false statements or implications that she desired or required that her appearance be digitally slenderized by altering the appearance of her hip for the magazine’s cover, and that she lied to the public about it. […] We demand a retraction,” the letter sent to Boing Boing by the star’s legal team reads.

All this while, the e-zine stands firm: Boing Boing did not claim Moore “requested” her photo to be altered, it only contracted an expert photographer and freelance writer to have a look at it and speak his mind. Which he did: Anthony Citrano even expressed his regret that a woman as gorgeous as Demi would be so retouched, blaming the people handling the photoshoot and W magazine indirectly for such a mishap as shaving off half her hip. There’s more to this, Boing Boing goes on to say.

“Since receiving this letter, we have discovered that an alternate, and seemingly more anatomically correct version of the W magazine cover (with more hip-flesh) was published in W’s South Korean edition. We have also been informed that Ms. Moore’s attorneys have sent similar letters to other blogs that discussed the possible digital alteration of the US cover image. The story is now being covered by a number of other news organizations and blogs,” the e-zine writes.

Demi Moore and her attorneys insist the photo was not altered in any way, as also do the people from W. Fans seem to think differently, though. More on this here.
