It seems that Demi Lovato has been taking lessons from Miley Cyrus in the shocking hair department. The singer, though reportedly at odds with the “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker, as part of the boycott campaign initiated by Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift, is rocking a shocking new 'do these days, and of course she would share it with her fans.

Demi is known for her boldness in experimenting with her hair, not being afraid to dye it in the most outrageous colors ranging from neon pink to bright blue or magenta. On Tuesday, March 4, the “Skyscraper” singer posted a photo on Instagram in which she teased some major changes.

The photo showed a strand of pink hair sheared off, sitting next to a trimmer and a small patch of shorter, darker hair. The photo bore the caption, “So .... This happened ..... Oops. #NEONLIGHTSTOUR,” as fans went wild trying to figure out what the outcome of the “accident” looked like.

And while some believed Demi pulled a Britney, completely removing her hair, they were put to rest by a later photo which showed that the singer had only buzzed off half of her hair in a punk-rock fashion, leaving some longer strands cover her now very short hair on the side of her head.

The shocking makeover does manage to look good on the 21-year-old singer who is still experimenting with her looks. However shocking, Lovato is by no means the first pop star to off a big chunk of her hair as a means of reinventing her image.

Most recently, Miley Cyrus made use of the same method when she began the process of repainting her image, as a departure from the old, fun Miley to the new, naughty and brazen Miley. If before she had had dark, long hair, Cyrus decided to gamble on a very short, bleached blond look that some fashion critics argued made her look like a boy.

She's still rocking the same 'do today, though with some slight modifications, since she's turned it into a weird bowl cut. As for Demi, let's hope she doesn't decide on shaving off any more of her hair, because with her round face and full features, she might end up looking like Humpty Dumpty.

In her case, long hair is a must to give her face that oval look men everywhere look for in a woman subconsciously, without even realizing it. What's your take on this new hairdo Demi Lovato has opted for? Is it an improvement or a step down from her previous pink locks?
