Now that she’s out of rehab and speaking publicly about the issues that sent her there in a bid to help other insecure teens like herself, Demi Lovato feels she couldn’t handle the pressure of being in front of the camera again. She’s leaving the Disney show “Sonny with a Chance.”

In a statement sent out to various US publications, Demi explains that, at this point, she just wants to focus on her recovery and her music career.

She obviously can’t do this while also working on the show; more importantly, she believes the pressure that comes with being in front of the camera could hold her back from full recovery, so she’s making a compromise.

“I don’t think going back to ‘Sonny’ would be healthy for my recovery. Being in front of a camera would make me nervous,” Demi says in the statement, as cited by PopEater.

The decision doesn’t come without some heartache, of course, but, at this point, Demi believes it’s the best she can make.

“It made sense for me to go ahead and leave the show to focus on my music,” the star says in the same statement.

“It’s kind of sad for me that a chapter of my life has ended, but there couldn’t be a better time for me to move on,” she explains.

For what it’s worth, Disney approves of the move, saying that they will always support Demi in whatever career path she chooses.

“We respect Demi’s decision to focus full time on her music and not immediately return to her acting career,” a statement from the Disney Channel reads, as per the aforementioned e-zine.

“She is a talented young woman, and our hearts are with her as she continues to take action to improve her health and bounce back from adversity,” the statement further reads.

As fans must know, in November last year, Demi went to rehab, amidst claims of anger management issues and alleged drug use.

In recent weeks, she’s been speaking about the problems that convinced her she needed professional help: low self esteem and an eating disorder, that led to a breakdown.
