Computer maker Dell is reported to be working on the development of an Internet device that should run under the Google Android operating system. According to a recent article from the Wall Street Journal, the upcoming solution should come to the market in a pocket-size form factor, as well as with touchscreen capabilities.

The new device is expected to come to the market before the end of the ongoing year, sources familiar with the company's plans seem to have stated, and will not come with cellphone capabilities, which place it into the Mobile Internet Devices (MID) category. As many of you might already know, gadgets in this area are placed somewhere between the smartphone category and the tablet PC segment.

Moreover, it seems that Dell's plans regarding the Android platform are a little bit bigger, and the company is reported to be working on a series of mobile phones running under the OS as well. According to WSJ, the manufacturer should come to the market with the handsets before the end of the ongoing year, the same as with the MID.

Due to the fact that it has become a trend lately to sell laptops through wireless carriers, Dell is also suggested to plan on making its Android MID device available for purchase via mobile phone operators. Further details on the matter are not available at the moment, but they should surface in the near future, in case the computer maker decides to officially unveil the MID.

At the same time, we should also note the fact that the device might be delayed or slashed, as WSJ points out, for its development seems to be more like some sort of an experiment for the company. In case it becomes real, and since Dell declined to comment on these rumors, it should be a fair bet to wait for an official statement from the company before making any further suppositions.
