Notebook shipments have been cast in a shadow due to shifting consumer interest

As Microsoft scheduled the termination of Windows XP technical support for April 2014, a lot of business are left looking to re-orientate themselves towards new providers.

This transition might prove to be beneficial for Dell, according to sources familiar with the matter, Taiwanese site DigiTimes reports.

Apparently, Dell is a bigger presence in the business market than any other notebook provider, so the Taiwan-based supply chain makers expect Dell to take over Acer's position and become the third largest notebook vendor in the world in 2014.

In the first half of 2013, Acer managed to ship 9,814 million notebooks across the globe, while Dell scored 9,287 million units and was named 4th biggest notebook provider.

Notebook business have been going through a rough patch lately, as tablets and smartphones have seized the attention of most consumes In the meanwhile, businesses have remained the main life juice for notebook makers to feed on.
