First seen at the IFA 2011 fair in Berlin at the start of September, Dell XPS 14z ultra-thin laptop will soon arrive in the US, and while the company wasn't willing to say anything about the price of the laptop it did reveal some of the specs of the system.

The XPS 14z will become the second Dell notebook to be released in a series of thin and powerful machines, after the bigger XPS 15z.

These new series will continue from where Adamo has left off and Dell is introducing quite a few interesting technologies in the new laptops to make them a lot more compact than their competitors.

One of the most important of these is the inclusion of an LG's Shuriken display, which narrows the bezel to the point that the XPS 14z fits inside a chassis the same dimension as that used by 13.3-inch notebooks.

In addition to its compact size, the aluminum case was also designed to feature an ultra-thin design and it measures no more than 0.9 inches (about 22.8mm).

From the information that is available at this time, we know that the XPS 14z will be available with both Core i5 and Core i7 Intel processors, starting from the Core i5-2430M CPU model, and going all the way up to the 2.8GHz clocked i7-2640M.

The rest of the specs list includes an Nvidia Optimus-enabled graphics card, a 7200RPM hard drive, a slot load DVD burner as well as an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 chipset with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 wireless connectivity.

When configured with an SSD, the XPS 14z will tip the scale at just 4.12 pounds (1.86kg). Along the side of the notebook users will find various ports, including USB 3.0, eSATA and a DisplayPort video output.

Dell's XPS 14z has already made its debut in China, and although no official information was provided by the company, its price is expected to start about the $999 mark (736 Euro). (via engadget)
